Hackneyed old jokes about a lack of sense of humour in Germany are exploded by Henning Wehn, a stand-up who has performed alongside Stewart Lee. Wehn, the self-styled “German Comedy Ambassador to the United Kingdom” brings his latest show, My Struggle (!), to the Electric as part of this year’s festival.
Since October 3rd is also German Reunification Day, expect some celebrations along with the self-deprecating humour and dismantling of national stereotypes.
Over at the MAC, Phoenix Nights Alumni Janice Connolly aka Barbara Nice presents …And Gals, an all-female line-up which includes the acclaimed sketch troupe Lady Garden and stand-ups Susan Calman, Francesca Martinez and Isma Almas.
You can find some great local comedy at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, with A Taste of James and Dan – featuring James Cook and Dan Smith, two of the best of Birmingham’s current crop of stand-ups. And there’s more regional mirth at The Victoria with Karen Bayley, Mickey Sharma and others.
